The Rod of Seven Parts
Shriekers are large, ambulatory mushrooms, generally in shades of purple. Shriekers are strict scavengers and most species have no means of directly attacking foes, instead relying on a symbiotic relationship with other creatures to protect them and provide the decaying matter that they need to survive. Most Shriekers respond to direct, bright light and even the lightest touch by emitting a variety of loud, shrill noises. Sometimes this drives away attackers. Other times, it simply calls something bigger and badder than the offending source of stimuli. Either way, it’s annoying at best and a deadly part of cavernous ecology at worst.
