The Rod of Seven Parts
The Umber Hulk is the hideous nightmare baby of someone who’s terrified of beetles and someone who’s thin love with apes. Or maybe someone who’s terrified of apes and in love with beetles. Or maybe someone who’s terrifed and/or in love with both. The point here is that the Umber Hulk is a massive, subterranean beetle-like monstrosity with oversized forelimbs and a gait much like a gorilla. They can burrow through all but the hardest stone at about the same speed that a man or woman can walk across a hallway, or when hunting, about the speed that the same man or woman could flee in terror. As if the idea of a giant horrid beetle that lopes like an angry ape wasn’t bad enough, their faces are dominated by colossal mandibles and punctuated by two sets of eyes. The smaller eyes are tiny and pitch black, while the larger ones are irridescent, multi-faceted and the size of ostrich eggs. Oh, and just the sight of those eyes can drive you mad.
